FERPA Compliance Program

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Compliance Program is meant to provide guidance and resources to students about how to exercise their rights under FERPA and to those who have responsibilities outlined in University Policy AC04 (FERPA).

Student Rights

The Annual Notification of Rights informs students attending, or who have attended, the University of Pittsburgh their rights under FERPA with respect to their education records. The Annual Notification of Rights is issued to students each year, can be found in the Student Code of Conduct, and is also available on the website of the University Registrar.

Guidance for students looking to exercise their rights can be found in the “Forms and Documents” section below.

Who has FERPA Compliance Responsibilities?

All University members are responsible for complying with FERPA. Some University schools/departments/units may encounter education records more often in their job functions.

Guidance for records custodians and employees who receive FERPA-related requests can be found in the “Forms and Documents” section below. Questions about FERPA procedures can also be directed to the Office of the University Registrar (our@pitt.edu).
